AI won’t take your job, but someone using it will
Anyone who’s a regular on LinkedIn must have seen this claim. If ever there was a sentence to make business owners sit up and take notice, there it is.
This isn’t referring to a far-off future where robots in suits turn up to your team meeting and make the tea. It’s happening now. The tools already exist, and your competitors are either using them or seriously thinking about doing so.
We’re not saying this to scaremonger, but as a wake-up call. AI, used ethically and correctly, isn’t about replacing people. It’s about doing more with what you’ve got. For small businesses, where resources are stretched and we wear a million hats, AI can underpin growth in a way that simply wasn’t possible a few years ago.
The first AI billionaire
You may have also read that the first AI billionaire is predicted to come from a unicorn company. In business terms, a unicorn company is one that reaches a valuation of over $1 billion. They’re rare, but they do exist, and they’re fast-growing. They tend to change the game in whichever sector they enter.
Now imagine a business like that, one underpinned by AI with lightning-fast growth and enjoying significant market disruption. We’re already seeing it. Companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and startups building clever tools on top of AI platforms are scaling at a pace we’ve never seen before. One of them is going to break the billionaire barrier.
They won’t replace humans, they’ll use AI to amplify what humans can do.
Do you want to know what the real job killer will be?
A resistance to change.
People using AI work faster. They spot trends more quickly. They produce content in minutes that might otherwise take days. They automate the tasks that eat up our time and redirect that energy into strategy, connection, and growth.
They’ll do the same job, but better. And they’ll probably do it at a fraction of the cost and stress.
In today’s climate, efficiency is currency.
At Evolve3, we spend a lot of time helping people – especially small charities and businesses – understand how AI fits into their world. And one of the biggest mindset shifts we try to foster is this:
AI isn’t your enemy. It’s your underdog advantage.
Whilst large corporations become stuck in approval loops, small businesses can adapt, pivot, and move fast. You can trial a tool in the morning and embed it in your workflow by the afternoon. You can build AI into your customer journey, your social media planning, your proposal writing, even your risk assessment processes.
When you do that, you start growing. Because you’ll be freeing up time, boosting the quality of your offering, and opening up new services and products you didn’t have the capacity to explore before.
Humans slack off, but AI doesn’t
Ever heard of the term social loafing?
It’s a psychological term used to describe what happens when people in a group put in less effort because they believe others will pick up the slack. Think of group projects at school where one person did all the work whilst the rest coasted. It happens in workplaces, too. People hide in teams, do the bare minimum, and wait for someone else to step up.
But AI doesn’t social loaf. It doesn’t get tired. It doesn’t clock-watch. And it doesn’t get distracted by WhatsApp messages or drama by the kettle.
However, without a human in the loop…without emotional intelligence, collaboration, humour, creativity and empathy, the workplace becomes a very sterile place indeed. The buzz dies. Any nuances disappear. Crucially, ideas and innovation stop flowing.
AI is brilliant, but it has no lived experience. It won’t see a struggling colleague and offer support. It won’t notice that a supplier’s gone quiet and check in on them. It won’t question whether a process is ethical or inclusive. It’ll just keep going.
That’s why the sweet spot is always human + AI. Never just AI.
So, if you’ve been watching the AI conversation unfold from the sidelines, it’s time to step in. There are no barriers to entry; most of the best AI tools are free or low-cost. You don’t need to understand technology on a great scale, you just need to understand your business and your customers.
